NSPCC volunteers will be at The Covered Market next weekend to help wrap Christmas presents for stressed-out shoppers.

The charity is asking for donations of £1 for the service, to help the charity’s 'Light For Every Childhood' Christmas campaign.

It aims to highlight child neglect in the UK and asks for support for its Helpline.

According to the charity, one in ten children in the UK have suffered neglect, which is the most common form of child abuse.

NSPCC Community Fundraising Manager for Oxfordshire Debbie Knights said: “We are enormously grateful to The Covered Market Oxford for supporting our Christmas campaign this year.

“Without supporters like them in the community, we would not be able to continue the work we do to help vulnerable young people all year round.

“Let our volunteers handle one of the more tiresome jobs on your Christmas ‘to-do’ list, and wrap your presents for you.”

Councillor Mary Clarkson, Board Member for Culture and City Centre added: “It is wonderful that the NSPCC are coming to Oxford’s Covered Market to help visitors to the market with their Christmas wrapping.

“Christmas can be a stressful time for many, and the NSPCC wish to highlight how this time of year can be lonely for children who experience neglect. I am delighted that the Covered Market will be supporting this campaign.

“If you wish to show your support, visit the Covered Market between Friday 21 and Sunday 23 December and one of the hard-working volunteers will be ready to wrap your Christmas gifts.”

You will be able to find the NSPCC’s gift-wrapping table outside The Covered Market Office, next to the Christmas tree.
