THE rafters were shaking at a primary school as pupils put their newly learnt rockstar skills to the test.

These students at Willowcroft Community School in Didcot held a concert to celebrate the end of their first term with the iRock School of Music.

iRock has been working with schools across Oxfordshire since the start of the academic year, helping youngsters take their first steps into learning how to play an instrument.

As well as learning the electric guitar, drums, keyboard and vocals, the children have created their own bands including The Red Giraffes, The Cheezy Wotsits, The Rock Rockers and The Pizza Band.

The Willowcroft concert is one of many taking place before Christmas - giving the students the chance to demonstrate their new found skills on stage in front of friends and family.

Head Teacher Jane Hemery said: 'I can’t believe how confident they were.

"We are really proud of them and delighted that we can offer this fantastic opportunity to learn to play music in such an inspiring way."

iRock currently teaches more than 1,000 students and is looking to expand into more Oxfordshire primary schools.

It is offering free 'rock band assemblies' to the first five schools that contact them.

These events feature a live performance from a professional musician and promise to get the whole school singing along.

Head of iRock Josh Franklin said: "They are such an inspiring event.

"Many of the children have never experienced a live rock concert before so the amazement on their faces is fantastic to see."
