Customers are getting ready to party at the Westgate Centre's latest new store Urban Outfitters.

The American fashion chain looks ready to open but staff won't let customers in until 5pm, when they will stage a welcome party for customers.

A number of eager bargain hunters were turned away by a doorman this morning and urged to return for the party.

There will live music, and a glass of wine for shoppers, as long as you are 18 and over and can show valid ID.

DJs will be playing their tunes while Most Wanted Wines will be providing refreshments between 5pm and 9pm.

Guests will also have the chance to win £500 to spend in store and will receive a free limited edition tote.

The new shop is at the Bonn Square entrance, next to River Island and opposite the Oxford library.

Urban Outfitters has its headquarters in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and operates in the United States, Sweden, United Kingdom, Spain, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Belgium, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Israel and Pakistan.

The opening of Urban Outfitters is expected to be one of the last major retailers at the £440m shopping complex which opened in October, 2017.

More than 19 million shoppers visited in the first year, exceeding expectation of the shopping centre owners.

The opening continues the shopping countdown to Christmas at Westgate Oxford and follows the opening of Spanish fashion giant Zara, which switched from the Clarendon Centre.

Spanish fashion chain Mango has not yet opened.

A number of stores at the Westgate Centre are holding their own special Christmas promotions.

Department store John Lewis is staying open late for shoppers from Monday until December 22 when it will remain open until 9pm each night. This excludes Sundays.
