CLOTHES drying near an electric heater sparked a house fire in Didcot this morning.

Crews rushed to Roebuck Court at 8.23am after receiving a report of a fire in a home.

On arrival, the crews discovered a small fire in the ground floor living room which had already been extinguished by the occupier.

A woman and child were led to safety by firefighters who then ventilated the property to remove smoke.

An investigation into the cause of the fire was carried out confirming its cause was due to clothing being placed near the heater.

Incident commander watch manager Steve Wright from Didcot Fire Station said: “It cannot be stressed enough the importance of calling 999 at the first sign of fire and ensuring you get out, and then stay out, of the property."
