OXFORD'S Plush Lounge night club has announced it will move into the building vacated by the Purple Turtle from early next year.
Just two days after the long-running student club held its final night in its Frewin Court home, landlord the Oxford Union has agreed a new long-term lease with Plush.
The LGBTQ+ venue, which is currently part of the Jam Factory in Park End Street, will hold its final night on New Year's Eve and re-open in its new location in January.
Owners have been looking for a new space due to the redevelopment of their current site by Nuffield College.
A statement released by the club said: "The Plush Lounge has recently accepted a long-term lease on new premises and will relocate to its new home below the Oxford Union in Frewin Court, located just off Cornmarket Street, in January 2019. This space was previously occupied by Purple Turtle.
"Plush is delighted that the new venue will offer long-term stability in providing an ongoing safe space for the LGBTQ+ community within central Oxford."
Hundreds queued in the cold on Saturday night to attend the closing night of the Purple Turtle after more than 20 years in operation.
Last week its owners said they were shocked and upset at the closure and said they should have been given more time by the Oxford Union to move out.
