KARL Robinson felt Oxford United’s performance at Forest Green Rovers was one of their best of the season as they came through their Emirates FA Cup replay.

James Henry, Jamie Mackie and Marcus Browne scored in a 3-0 win, extending the U’s unbeaten run to nine games in all competitions.

But there was to be no Cup fairytale for Oxford City, as the part-timers were beaten 2-0 at home to Tranmere Rovers in their televised first round replay.

United’s reward is a tie at Sky Bet League One counterparts Plymouth Argyle on December 1, and boss Robinson was delighted with his side’s display at the New Lawn.

He said: “The result was fantastic, especially in the way we did it, against a very good team.

“We made a few changes, but we were good.

“That’s probably one of the best performances we have seen for a while, that and the (Checkatrade Trophy) win over Wycombe weirdly – we’re good away in the cup.

“We’re now nine unbeaten, eight clean sheets in 11 games, that says everything about our team at the moment, but we still know there is a long way to go.”

United were backed by an impressive 509 travelling fans and Robinson said his side owed them a positive result.

He added: “That was part of our team talk before we came out.

“You can’t let people come this far and if you lose, you do it by running around and in the right way.

“We hope we gave them the respect they totally deserved at the end by the applause we gave them.”

Jamie Hanson started at right back in one of four changes and shone in defence for United.

The 23-year-old was delighted to be part of a professional away display.

He said: “We knew it was going to be a tough game and 3-0 looks like we wiped them away, but that’s not the case.

“We had to dig in sometimes and I just think we took our chances better than we did in the first game.”

For City boss Mark Jones it was a case of what might have been.

“Tranmere deserved it,” he admitted. “I don’t think we really got going tonight.

“We got off to a poor start, but I thought we showed signs of getting back in the game.

“Then we conceded a terrible second goal, which is going to make it very difficult.

“We huffed and puffed but Tranmere created the clearer chances and we didn’t really make their goalkeeper make a good save.

“But give credit to Tranmere – I don’t think they allowed us to get going.”
