A MAN was attacked with a 'bladed weapon' while walking in Temple Cowley this morning.

Thames Valley Police said the victim, a man in his 40s, was approached by the attacker in Barracks Lane shortly before 5.30am.

It said the man's hand was 'significantly injured' with what was believed to be a 'bladed weapon'.

He also suffered less serious injuries to his head and leg and was taken to hospital.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The force said the attacker fled along Barracks Lane towards the junction of Kenilworth Avenue, in East Oxford.

He is described as a mixed race man, aged between 19 and 20, with short curly hair and was wearing dark clothing.

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Paul Powell, based at Abingdon police station, said: "We are investigating this assault which has left a man with a significant injury to his hand.

"We are aware that there may have been a number of witnesses in the area at the time and we would ask anyone with information to please contact us.

"Members of the public may see an increased police presence in the area whilst we investigate."
