AN OXFORD-based group campaigning to change the law on assisted dying is inviting local people to attend their Annual General Meeting next week.

Dignity in Dying's Oxford branch meeting will hear from a professor of philosophy and a former president of the Royal College of Surgeons, on Tuesday from 7pm, at Regent's Park College.

Dr Marianne Talbot, who has written about her experience caring for her mother, will be speaking about assisted dying and its ethical dilemmas for doctors.

She also wrote Keeping Mum: Caring for someone with dementia.

Sir Terence English, a member of Healthcare Professionals for Assisted Dying, will also address the meeting, discussing medical attitudes towards the campaign for assisted dying and progress in the courts.

The group's Joelle Mann said: “We have heard from both Oxford MPs that they strongly support a change in the law to allow assisted dying within clear, specific criteria”.
