EFFORTS to get smokers to kick the habit once and for all have continued with campaigners taking their message out to shoppers.

A stop smoking stall in Templars Square on Thursday urged people to give up the habit which contributes to 100,000 deaths a year.

Oxfordshire County Council’s stop smoking service - known as Smokefreelife Oxfordshire - is on the road to help the county’s 57,000 smokers to quit as part of the national Stoptober campaign.

Service manager Liz West joined colleagues at the stand to give guidance on quitting aids and where to seek ongoing support.

The service provides a free 12 week treatment plan, combining behavioural support with nicotine replacement therapy.
