Purveyor of fine, thought-provoking music, Vez Hoper is back with another one of her brilliantly oddball Irregular Folks sessions.

Having provided one of the highlights of the season with her Summer Session, she has teamed up with The Old Fire Station’s music night The Listening Room to host a night of tunes tomorrow from multi-instrumentalists Peter Broderick, a former live band member of Danish indie rock act Efterklang, and Douglas Dare.

“This is going to move your musical brain to incredible new places,” says Vez.

“This will be just one of three UK dates for Peter and we are so proud to have been invited to do this show.

“Peter’s genre-defying music – sometimes song based, sometimes instrumental – will take you on a whole new inspirational musical journey.”

As well as working with Efterklang, he has collaborated with Sharon Van Etten, She and Him, River Consoles and A Winged Victory for the Sullen. His latest album All Together Again showcases his compositional style.

From one of Erased Tapes earliest signings we now go to one of their most recent.

Douglas Dare is an artist who perfectly defines the Irregular Folks approach – mixing piano with voice and glitchy electronics.

“His rich, distinctive hauntingly dark vocal style had us hooked immediately,” says Vez.

“Douglas’s music takes you through a sumptuous collage of sound, all the while never loosing site of addictive song structures – it’s avant-pop at it’s finest. It’s not suprising he’s been chosen to tour with the likes of Ólafur Arnalds, and Nils Frahm. We are so excited to welcome him to Oxford. We can’t wait to get stuck in with this beauty of a gig.”

The tie up with The Listening Room is inspired, and Vez is eager to strengthen links with the venue.

“Exploring different venues and collaborating with like minded arts organisations is something Irregular Folks has been doing more,” she says.

“It’s meant a lot that they were up for this collaboration. What they do at the OFS makes a hugely valuable contribution to our community, not only for putting on fantastic arts events, but it also goes deeper with their incredible work with Crisis.”

Becs Morris from The Old Fire Station and The Listening Room said:
“The Listening Room are absolutely over the moon to be working with the wonderful Irregular Folks!

"We love what they do and are super excited to have teamed up to bring this absolute stunner of a gig to the Old Fire Station.”
