OXFORD Bus Company passengers have raised almost £2000 for Helen and Douglas House in less than two weeks.

During July, the company is donating 50p to the cash-strapped hospice for every return and period return ticket bought on its X90 service.

The bus company announced today that £1900 has been raised for the charity so far, which closed down Douglas House on Magdalen Road last month.

Douglas House provided the hospice's adult services and was set to shut in August, but staff shortages meant it closed weeks ahead of schedule.

Helen House, which supports babies and children under 18, remains open as usual.

The X90 serves Oxford and London.
