PLANS for Oxford's new Swan School have been officially criticised by a parish council.

Old Marston Parish Council has lodged its official objection to River Learning Trust's planning application for the 1,260-pupil secondary school in Raymund Road, Marston.

The council's comment raised concerns about the access road cutting across 'one of the busiest cycle tracks in the country'.

Last week the Oxford Mail reported objections of residents, and scores more have been submitted to Oxford City Council in the past few days.

In that time, however, Meadowbrook College has also submitted a comment in support.

The alternative provision academy will get a new building as part of the Swan School plans, and its response to the application described its current buildings as 'not fit for purpose'.

It added that the new school, which would replace its current home the Harlow Centre, is 'an opportunity that must not be missed'.
