OXFORD has been named the ninth best place to make a living in the UK.

The latest ranking of towns and cities has been produced by credit broke Totally Money and takes into account monthly take-home salary, mortgage repayments, cost of living, unemployment levels and job growth.

Despite Oxford regularly topping lists of the country's least affordable places to live, the city came in a respectable ninth.

The research found residents had an average of £600 of their salary left over each month, and monthly mortgage repayments of £2,617.
