A FINAL scramble to finish the new rail link between Oxford and London via Marylebone will get under way tomorrow.

Engineers from Network Rail will start 24-hour work at Oxford Rail Station tomorrow and are expected to be on site until Sunday, December 11.

Platform construction forms the bulk of the work taking place but some noisier work will run until Friday as new track is being installed.

Temporary noise barriers will be set up around the working area to reduce the impact of travelling sound.

The direct route from Oxford to London is expected to see its first trains run on Monday, December 12.

Network Rail’s route delivery director Graeme Tandy said: “We would like to thank residents for their patience as we undertake this upgrade work.

"It is essential that we complete the installation of track and the building of the platforms to allow Chiltern Railways to Connect Oxford Station to Marylebone, providing passengers with new services.

“We will do everything in our power to minimise noise and impact on local residents as this work takes place.”
