NINETEEN buildings in Oxford have been  left without power after a fault in an electrical installation.

Two fire engines were called to reports of smoke coming from under a manhole in St Aldate’s just after 2pm today.

A cordon was placed around the area and Scottish and Southern Energy was called.

People in St Aldate’s, Clarks Row, Rose Place and St Thomas’ Street had their power supply isolated as a safety precaution.

SSE spokeswoman Jenna Black said: “We isolated the supply nineteen customers as a safety precaution.

“The repair crew was expected at the site at 5.30pm and the restoration time is 8.30pm.

“We want to apologise to any customers who had their supply affected due to this underground fault.”
