The last chances to catch the Oxford Playhouse’s The History of everything in Oxfordshire this summer are fast approaching, writes Amy Cashman.

The action-packed, pop up tent show is crammed with facts and fit-to-bursting with fun, and is out on the road for the season.

The show makes its final stops at Berinsfield Fete on Saturday and Carterton Family Day at Carterton Primary School next Thursday, at 11am, 1.30pm and 4pm on both days.

For intrepid time-travellers aged 4 to 11 it brings history to life, with a bubbling mix of storytelling, comedy, music, puppets and more. It combines a mixture of education and amusement by taking the theatre outdoors, inspiring children’s imagination and encouraging their learning.

Ellie Harman of the Oxford Playhouse said: “We aim to bring access to all corners of Oxfordshire, not just the inner city, to spread theatre far and wide and to those who may not usually have the opportunity to see a show.”

The pop up tent has previously enjoyed huge success bringing theatre and family fun to over 4,000 people last year alone.

Each year the Playhouse’s tent enjoys a different theme hoping to inspire and entertain as many young children as possible.

A highlight of this summer’s tour was a very special performance for patients at Oxford Children’s Hospital, in Headington, many of whom are struggling with long-term illness.

The performance provided much-needed respite and a chance for the children to giggle, laugh and learn.

Caron Houchen, a teacher at Oxfordshire Hospital School said: “for many of the young people we teach, opportunities to visit the theatre are few and far between, so we are so grateful to the Playhouse for bringing their latest show to us”.

Tickets for The History of Everything at Berinsfield Fete and Carterton Family Day are free of charge, so just turn up and enjoy the show.

* If your young ones get the acting bug, why not sign up for the Oxford Playhouse’s summer drama scheme.

Between August 19-23 they are running a “play in a week” workshop for young people aged 8-11 or 11-14.

The Beauty and the Beast or ‘Telling Tales’ themes allow participants to explore different disciplines: musical theatre, physical theatre, storytelling, puppetry and more.

At the end of the experience they have the opportunity to share their newly learnt skills to family and friends through an on-stage performance.

The scheme costs £125 for the week. Book online at oxfordplayhouse.com
