Gill Churchill thanked the people of Bromyard and the town council for its support, as she handed over the chain of office to her successor, after two years as mayor.

Jonathan Lester was voted in unanimously as the new mayor of Bromyard at a meeting on Monday.

"It's been a privilege being mayor of Bromyard and Winslow, and working with a dedicated and committed council," said Mrs Churchill.

"I've had the opportunity to work with Herefordshire Council and discuss the way we would like to see Bromyard and Winslow develop in the future."

During her two years, Mrs Churchill has attended more than 100 events, and raised £3,500 for the Victoria Eye Unit, at Hereford Hospital.

She said she would continue to do her best for the town, and paid tribute to Coun Lester, describing him as an excellent deputy who always went far beyond what was asked of him.

Coun Lester has served with the town council for 10 years and said it was a great honour to take on his new role.

"I'm filled with utmost respect for the privilege that has been bestowed upon me," he said.

"I will serve Bromyard and Winslow in every way possible."

He thanked Coun Churchill for the tireless work she had done in the town, which would continue to benefit the community.

Coun Jamie Jacobsen was voted in as vice-chairman and councillors thanked Robert Hollis, who has stepped down from the council.
