THE newly restored pavilion complex at Newport's Belle Vue Park is providing valuable training and work opportunities for students with learning disabilities.

A catering training project for learning disabled students called Doorstep Delights, formerly on the outskirts of the city centre, is now operating out of the park's recently opened Belle Vue Conservatory Tea Rooms.

And the efforts of the young people involved in running the venue is proving popular with park visitors.

Light snacks, choice desserts, ice creams and afternoon teas are the highlights on the menu at a venue open daily from 10am-4pm, and which also offers cafe and buffet facilities for pre-booked meetings, parties and activities.

"The tea rooms provides vocational training to support people with learning disabilities to help them secure work in catering," said Ros Williams, development co-ordinator for Vision 21, a voluntary organisation that works with councils across Wales.

"We aim to develop innovative projects to provide increasing employment options for people with learning disabilities."

The project is supported by the cuity council's adult services department.
