A CHISELDON teenager has held a Get Together barbecue for his mates and raised cash for Prospect@Home.

Chris Wilkins, 18, an apprentice carpenter, is a bit of a sun worshipper and enjoys barbecue food.

When he read about the campaign in the Advertiser he decided he could cook up a meal for his friends and put some money into the hospice at the same time.

"I went to school in Wroughton, and so did most of my mates," said Chris.

"So I knew the hospice was there.

"When I read about the Get Together appeal, I thought I can't see why I can't have a go at that.' "We've had some brilliant weather lately, so I told some friends if they were willing to pay for the privilege they could watch me cook and get a suntan at the same time."

Chris and friends Robert Amos, 18, of Old Town, Richard Wood, 18, of Wroughton, Ben Gillett, 20, of West Swindon, Tim Cruise, 20, of Wootton Bassett, and Laurie Pycroft, 17, of Old Town, tucked into Sloppy Joes, hamburgers and sausages and swilled them down with Coke.

"We had a good time," said Chris.

"By the end of the afternoon we'd almost got the hang of cooking the sausages without burning them."

Get Together for Prospect@Home is simple and fun - and it all happens at home.

We want you to plan a Get Together which will bring people together in your home to share supper, a party, lunch, a barbecue, afternoon tea, a lazy Sunday brunch or whatever kind of meal you fancy.

So how will spending time with friends and family raise funds for Prospect@Home?

Well, you simply ask your guests to pay for their meal.

The price you set should be about the same as what they'd pay if they were eating the meal in a restaurant or pub that sells food.

We've got a special Get Together pack with ideas, invitations, recipe suggestions - including some suggestions for barbecue recipes - and other material to make organising your meal fun and easy.

And, thanks to the generous support of Arkell's and Magnum Wines, you can get discount on beer and wines that you buy for your Get Together meal.

You can apply for your Get Together fundraising pack by contacting Gemma Jones on 01793 816147 or 01793 815142.
