MINISTER for Climate Change and the Environment Ian Pearson presented Kingswinford firm Clamason Industries with an award for its commitment to the environment.

The company, which makes metal pressings for use in the automotive industry and in medical supplies, was awarded a gold standard by the Black Country Business Environment Charter for its environmentally-friendly efforts.

Bosses worked with environmental charity Groundwork Black Country to examine all aspects of their operation and to help lessen the impact on the environment - partly by cutting the amount of waste generated.

The company was already sorting and reusing waste metal but it is now also separating cardboard and recycling other materials.

Dudley South MP Ian Pearson, who handed over the award on April 27, said: "It is in the interests of all businesses to look at ways in which they can improve their environmental performance.

"Reducing waste is an obvious area to explore, leading to cost savings and environmental benefits.

"I am delighted Clamason is leading the way in these efforts and that it has been able to find the support necessary to carry out the work and achieve recognition for its achievements."
