Hampton & Richmond manager Alan Devonshire was dealt a double blow on Saturday, after his side's title chances were hit by Staines Town.

The Beavers came back from 2-0 down with 12 minutes left on the clock to sneak a last-gasp draw, courtesy of goals from Lawrence Yaku and Dean Wells.

If that was not bad enough, the ex-West Ham star found out his beloved former club had been beaten 3-0 by fellow relegation strugglers Sheffield United.

Devonshire admitted it was not one of his greatest afternoons.

"It wasn't ideal. It doesn't look good at West Ham but I am keeping my fingers crossed for them," he said.

"I am going to Upton Park for the game against Chelsea on Wednesday (today), so hopefully I will see them take a step towards Premiership survival."

Despite dropping two valuable points against Staines, Devonshire insisted he was not too downbeat, particularly after seeing his battlers come from behind.

"We showed a lot of character to claim a point with just 12 minutes left," he said.

"Whether our comeback was the sign of champions remains to be seen, because we have got three hard games left."

The Beavers boss claimed his side should have taken all three points, after Ian Hodges had a last-minute header disallowed for offside.

"It was a game we dominated and we should have won it," he added.

"In my opinion, Hodges wasn't offside when he went up for the header.

"But it is still in our hands, which is where we want to be at this stage of the season.

"We just have to keep on picking up points."
