From the Railway Children to Billy Liar, Bradford has a proud tradition of providing the set for big movies.

And one Bradford filmmaker is hoping his debut will, one day, enjoy similar status.

Life Without You was produced and directed by Haroon Rashid, 23, who chose his home town as the setting for his first film which gets its premier tomorrow night at the National Media Museum in the Cubby Broccoli cinema.

Mr Rashid was a winner of the first Enterprise Island competition, the scheme to find aspirant entrepreneurs in the city.

He set up his own production company, Finisher Productions, with the help and advice of the Enterprise Island scheme and began work on Life Without You shortly afterwards.

The film follows the fortunes of Joel and Aimee, a married couple trying for a baby. After a year of no success Joel is on the verge of losing his job and keeps his failing work performance and smoking habit secret from his wife.

Mr Rashid, of Thornton, shot the entire film in Bradford and used actors chiefly from the city.

He said: "The film was made on a budget of just £5,000 but cheaper does not always mean lesser quality.

"People got on board because they liked the company, they liked the vision and they liked the script.

"I would like to thank everybody who worked for free or for lesser wages as they have helped us bring this dream into reality.

"Enterprise Island was an inspiring project which boosted my confidence that I could succeed with my own business."

Around 100 guests, including top film industry representatives, will attend the first screening of Life Without You.

The venue for the premiere came after Bite the Mango Festival director Andy Rutter saw the potential in what Mr Rashid was doing.

Mr Rutter said: "We are keen to support local film makers and production companies. Haroon's debut needed support and encouragement to ensure his continued interest in films and our support of the film industry."

Educated at Bradford Grammar School, Haroon gained an acting degree from Leeds University two years ago. He lists Denzil Washington, Tom Cruise and Back To The Future director Robert Zemeckis as influences on his career, and has already started work on a second film.
