A jury has heard how a seven-year-old girl was raped and sexually abused.

Bradford Crown Court has been told that the girl, whose identity is protected by law, was molested over a period of months during 2003 and 2004.

Carl Walker, 19, is on trial accused of raping the girl and forcing her to touch him.

In his opening speech to the jury prosecutor Jonathan Devlin said that Walker, who was aged about 15 at the time of the alleged incidents, would kiss and "snog" the young complainant.

But the jury was told that things then progressed and Walker grabbed her hand and made her touch him indecently.

The girl felt scared and frightened, Mr Devlin said, and was worried that Walker might hurt her.

The defendant is alleged to have got into the same bed as the girl and then raped her. Mr Devlin told the court that she felt dirty and was worried about having a baby.

Walker, of Dalby House, Oakwood Avenue, Bolton Woods, Bradford was arrested and interviewed but denied that he had done anything wrong and has pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape and a charge of indecent assault.

But Mr Devlin told the jury yesterday: "The prosecution say that when you have heard all the evidence that you will be left in no doubt at all that unhappily this defendant abused this young girl.

"You will be left in no doubt at all that what she has to tell you is the truth."
