TRAFFORD homeowners are to be given a lesson in how to be more environmentally friendly in a bid to boost the borough's recycling rates.

A team of specially trained staff will knock on more than 11,500 doors in the Partington, Sale West, Broomwood and Old Trafford areas to provide information about the materials that can be recycled.

The visits will take place between 12noon and 8pm Tuesday to Friday and between 10am and 6pm on Saturdays up to the beginning of May.

Gail Ormston, recycling officer said: "By visiting people on the doorstep to talk to them about their local recycling services and to offer advice about how, what and why to recycle, we hope to encourage people to recycle more of the right materials more often."

The WRAP funded project is being run on behalf of Trafford Council by Enventure Consultancy Ltd.

All staff will carry identification and be easily recognisable, though anybody unsure about the identity of a caller will be offered the chance to call a special phone number for verification.
