EVESHAM Rugby Club's Under-15 squad returned home from their Scottish tour with the International Festival Challenge Cup.

The tourists, however, made a losing start when hosts Ayr snatched the solitary score in the tournament's opening match.

There then followed a scoreless draw against Darlington Mowden Park and a similar conclusion in the third game against Newark that left the Vale boys having to win all their matches the next day to keep alive their hopes of success.

Sporting tour shirts sponsored by Talented UK.com and Success Factor Consulting, Evesham were firing on all cylinders to overcome Mackie 52-5 when the tries were scored by Ryan Clarke, Matt Phillips (2), MIke Diston (2), Callum Baker, Dan Wilson and George Murray. Diston added six conversions.

The win left Evesham needing to win their final game against Newark who took to the field convinced that they could repeat the previous day's result.

Evesham's game plan was to not let Newark's heavy forwards dominate and they didn't disappoint.

The forwards hit Newark with everything they could and forced many errors from their opponents.

Centre Jack Anderson crossed for a superb opening that was added to late in the second half when Clarke touched down and Diston's conversion completed a real team triumph.
