AFTER the recent death of his father, Bootleg McCartney singer Chris O'Neill is set to dedicate the proceeds from his hometown show to Willowbrook Hospice.

Beatles-mad Chris (44), a gifted musician and singer, pledged to donate the funds to the hospice because his dad Joe, who died of lung cancer in December, received such terrific treatment there.

Chris, of Eccleston, explained: "Dad was superbly looked after by the carers at Willowbrook. They have a knack of making people feel instantly at ease - it's all about promoting life.

"I feel indebted to them, which is why I'm dedicating our next show to them."

Bootleg McCartney are set to perform a string of hits penned by Paul McCartney in their gig at St Helens Theatre Royal on Friday, April 20.

Among the classic songs they will play are Yesterday', Blackbird' and Here Today' - McCartney's tribute to John Lennon.

It is set to be a family affair too, because they will be joined on stage by the choir from St Thomas of Canterbury Primary School, which includes Chris's daughters Jade and Amber.

But despite playing the role of Paul McCartney in his tribute band, Chris, who is also an acclaimed actor, actually played McCartney's ex-bandmate George Harrison in the 1994 BAFTA award-winning film Backbeat'.

Chris joked: "I only got the part because I lied about my age in the auditions. I was 30 at the time but got the part of an 18-year-old!

"I've played John Lennon too in the theatre show Love Me Do' - so it's only Ringo left for me play now!"

Julie Garner, the head of fundraising for Willowbrook Hospice, commented: "We are delighted that Chris wants to help us with our fundraising.

"We're really looking forward to the night and hope that all music lovers will join us to support his band."

Tickets are available now for the Bootleg McCartney show, priced £15 for adults with £12.50 concessions. To book your ticket, call the Theatre Royal's box office on 01744 756000.
