THURROCK boss Hakan Hayrettin is optimistic that his Fleet side will do what it takes to avoid relegation from the Conference South.

Once again Thurrock showed their Jekyll and Hyde side over the Easter period. A defeat to fellow relegation rivals Hayes was quickly forgotten with an outstanding win away at playoff chasing Braintree Town.

The two results were typical of Thurrock's frustrating inconsistency this season, which Fleet fans have now come to expect.

Now Hayrettin has his sights set on another three points when Thurrock host Bognor Regis Town at Ship Lane on Saturday.

The additional three points claimed on Monday edges Fleet closer to league survival.

Looking back on the Easter matches the boss said: "The home game was very disappointing, in terms of the result. The players did their best but we didn't take our chances.

"Against Braintree we didn't have many opportunities but we took one of them. We always seem to do better against teams above us."

With only five games remaining, Fleet have a three point advantage over Basingstoke, with a game in hand and Heyrettin is optimistic that a win this weekend would be a devastating blow to their relegation counterparts.

He said: "I feel that a six point gap could do it.

"I had previously said that Basingstoke and Weston-Super-Mare would go down along with Bedford, my prediction is right so far. It is very important that we keep plugging away though."

Visitors Bognor, are currently sitting in mid-table and are stuttering towards the end of the season, with only two wins in nine games.

The Rocks will offer a substantial threat to Fleet's rearguard with strikers Luke Nightingale and Ben Watson both netting 12 a piece in the league.

Hayrettin respects this tally and the way Bognor play, saying: "I admire them and it will be a tough but interesting game. They always try and play football and they will have a chance to do that on our pitch."

However, Heyrettin, whose side at also at home on Monday evening against Newport County, added: "We wont sit back for a draw. We want to win."
