Ystradgynlais Athletic were well beaten by a well-drilled Gorseinon side at Vardre on Tuesday night.

This defeat shatters the Athletic team's dreams of being crowned champions of the Swansea and District.

The first half was tight but a few bad decisions by the Blues especially when awarded penalties allowed Gorseinon to run in tries from some distance.

To Gorseinon's credit they made best of their chances with their centre pairing playing a big part frustrating the Ystrad back line.

They scored three unanswered first half tries.

The second half was dominated by Gorseinon as they run in five tries to complete their route.

Their support play was key to their success with their entire side showing good fitness levels.

There were some positives for the Mighty Blues reserve team after showing a steady scrum and securing some fine line out ball through both Luke Owen and Scott Acid' Davies. Club coach Andy Davies also rolled back the years with a committed display and it was good to see centre Ceri Lewis back after a long-term injury.

What was most encouraging was seeing twenty-four genuine second team players turning up to play.

There was however a sour note with Gorseinon fielding a large chunk of first team players.

Ystradgynlais RFC Press Officer Huw Thomas said: "There are many teams conducting in this unsporting ritual and it is something the Swansea and District needs to look in to seriously."
