SAM PARKIN is poised to grace the County Ground turf once again in August with Glenn Hoddle directing operations from the dug out.

Not that Super Sammy is about to re-sign and nor should Paul Sturrock worry about his job. It's all in the name of charity.

Former Town favourite Phil King is organising a Glenn Hoddle XI versus a Lou Macari XI in aid of the Prospect Hospice in Wroughton.

Parkin, although unlikely to play a major part in the match due to club commitments, is one of several ringers', with Chris Waddle and Paul Gascoigne potential guests as well.

King said: "It's something I'd been mulling over for a while and as soon as you mention the Prospect Hospice, everyone comes out of the woodwork.

"It's a game that would represent the two best glory periods in the club's recent history.

King joked: "The initial date was going to be Wednesday August 8 but after talking to Paul Sturrock and paying for some food at one of his barbecues, he's agreed to let us have the pitch on the Monday (August 6).

It means King now has to confirm some names who had agreed to the original Wednesday date but the initial response has been fantastic.

Hoddle and John Gorman will manage one side with Macari assisted by John Trollope.

King said: "Confirmed for the monday are myself, Jon Gittens, Paul Bodin, Bobby Barnes, Fraser Digby, Alan MacLoughlin, Fitzroy Simpson, Adi Viveash, Paul Hunt, Tom Jones, Martin Ling, Chris Kamara, Charlie Henry, Jim Quinn, Steve White and Shaun Taylor."

Those who had agreed to the Wednesday date and will need to confirm their availability for the Monday are Colin Calderwood, Duncan Shearer, Paul Allen, David Kerslake, Sam Parkin, Chris Ramsay, Jan Aage Fjortoft and Dave Hockaday.

King said: "I now have to write to John Moncur, Kevin Horlock, Bryan Wade, Colin Gordon, Peter Coyne, Craig Maskell and Nicky Summerbee.

"I've asked a couple of guests, including Chris Waddle and I'm trying to get him to persuade Paul Gascoigne to come down."

n Tickets are provisionally going to be £10 for adults and £5 for children and are expected to go on sale from the beginning of June.
