VOLUNTEERS are being sought for this year's Mix XL '07 music festival, organised by Devon County Council's Music Service, and involving all its 376 schools.

This year's theme is The World Comes to Devon'.

Now in its third year, the musical extravaganza is going from strength to strength, and this year's promises to be the biggest ever, with over 5,000 schoolchildren and teachers taking part.

The festival offers over 100 concerts, workshops and performances from top international artists, and showcases some of Devon's brightest musical maestros.

Executive member for children's services, Cllr John Smith said: "Following two highly successful festivals, this year promises to be even bigger and better than before.

"This is a superb opportunity for local schools to get together and perform, experiment with music and see some of the country's top artists.

"Music is such an important part of our culture and heritage, and we are pleased to be supporting events like this which encourage young people to celebrate their musical talents."

Organisers are now seeking around 70 volunteers to help with the event.

Duties could range from door stewardship, to car park attendant or sound technician.

The council is looking for companies or individuals who would be prepared to commit some time to helping out.

Checks will be carried out on all volunteers.

Event organiser Sally Raynes said: "This is a great opportunity for music fans and people who want to gain additional experience working with young people to get involved in a fabulous musical event.

"There is always a superb atmosphere at the festival, with a great range of music to suit everyone. We're hoping companies and individuals will sign up to helping on the day - no matter what their skills or experience. "

Mix XL takes place Wednesday 27 June 2007 at Westpoint Arena, Exeter, and volunteers will be needed from 8.30am to 5.30pm. Information on this year's event can be found on www.devon.gov.uk/dms-mixxl Anyone requiring information can contact Sally Raynes on e-mail sally.raynes@devon.gov.uk.
