SALISBURY Rugby Club's under 11s have a date at the home of English rugby, after turning in a brilliant performance in a national tournament.

Both they and Salisbury's under 13s were in action in Nottingham over the weekend, competing in the Gulliver's National Youth Rugby Festival.

Both young sides acquitted themselves extremely well in the competition, the final stages of which are traditionally held at Twickenham as a curtain-raiser to a senior match.

The club's under 11s produced a fantastic series of results beating Otley, Romford & Gidea Park, Fleetwood and Newark in their group, amassing 65 points and conceding none, before meeting Bishop's Stortford in the quarter finals.

Stortford took an early lead before William Bailey scored in the corner.

Salisbury then resisted intense pressure to secure a draw, a result which is enough to send them to Twickenham for their semi-final against Sandal.

The game will be played before the England Saxons take on Scotland A on May 28.

Meanwhile Salisbury under 13s managed to chalk up two wins against Maidstone and Romford & Gidea Park, but found Old Northamptonians, Chelmsford, and Waterloo a little too good.

Nevertheless it was a valuable experience for the boys, as well as for skipper Tom Vaughan Edw-ards, whose performances consistently impressed throughout the festival.

Salisbury's under 15s side enjoyed a more traditional tour to the West Country.

They played Avon RFC and Frampton Cotterill before enjoying being spectators at Bath's match with Gloucester.

The youngsters' first game saw Avon win convincingly, by 24 points to 12.

Salisbury's scores came from Tom Heathcote, who notched up a try and a conversion, with David Tonge the other try-scorer for the Castle Road side.

Frampton Cotterill also proved too strong for Salisbury in their second clash of the trip.

Frampton won 19-0 despite a spirited performance from the Salisbury boys, who never gave up despite picking up some seven injuries during a tough, physical match.
