CONGLETON Town have a new manager this week after the resignation of Andy Lee.

Lee is moving with his family to Blackpool, which would have meant a long journey between his new home and Congleton.

He broke the news of his resignation to club chairman Peter Evans on Monday, and the Bears moved quickly to appoint a successor.

Anthony Buckle, who was assistant manager to Nigel Gleghorn at Nantwich and Newcastle Town, is Congleton's new manager, with Darren Twigg his assistant.

Lee took the Bears to Mid-Cheshire Senior Cup success this season, and the league cup semi-final, where they were narrowly beaten by league champions FC United.

"The news Andy was moving to Blackpool naturally had the board worried, as they could see he would find the long journey a strain," said club press officer Ken Mead.

"On Monday evening he informed Peter Evans he felt he had little option but to resign.

"Andy took over when Paul Moore left to manage Leek Town, and kept the squad together to produce some fine performances.

"A 10th place in the league was a little disappointing, but the basis was there to build a stronger squad next season."

Peter Evans was sad to lose Lee's services, but understood the reasons for his decision to resign.

"We all love football, but families and work take their rightful priority, and Andy's decision was the right one," he said.

He knows he will always be welcome to visit."

Mr Evans moved quickly following Lee's resignation, and after speaking with Nigel Gleghorn Buckle was a strong recommendation.

Buckle and Twigg accepted the posts of manager and assistant manager at a meeting with Mr Evans on Tuesday.

Twigg has had experience managing at Kidsgrove Athletic.
