THE highlight of day two at the Bank Holiday Radnor and West Hereford Hunt point-to-point meeting at Cold Harbour was the success of Minsgill Mans in the four-mile Men's Open race for the Crudwell Cup.

Taking the lead with a circuit still to run, Minsgill Mans, who was ridden by James Tudor, was always travelling strongly but could not shake off the persistent challenge of Shuil Monty.

And it was only at the second last fence that the Welsh challenger asserted to win by four lengths.

Earlier in the day, Tudor had also taken the opening Restricted race aboard Allborn Lad.

He said: "He can be a bit free and I was worried he might be his own worst enemy over this trip.

"But he loved the ground and he wasn't doing a great deal in front."

The Intermediate race saw four runners go to post with Strong Weld and Itsalf disputing favourtism.

In the end, it was Strong Weld from the Eastnor yard of Nicky Sheppard who was just sent off favourite.

From flag-fall it was Strong Weld who went to the front under rider Liam Payter and the partnership gave a exhibition of bold front running to record an all-the-way success over Itsalf with The Unamed Man back in third place.
