CASTLE Howard is preparing for a royal visit - from Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

Theatre studies students will be re-enacting the 1850 visit of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert to the castle as part of their degree course.

The performances will see the "royal couple" journey through the house, where visitors will witness the preparations for the arrival of Victoria and Albert, and meet the characters involved, from the footmen to the Earl of Carlisle.

Vivienne Razavilar, head of the Creative Arts Academy at Park Lane College, Leeds, said: "The students involved have worked really hard on this project as part of their work-based learning, researching the characters in depth and writing their own scripts. I am thrilled that we have had the opportunity to engage these students in what is becoming a very popular form of theatre: bringing history to life."

The performances will take place next Monday, at 11.30am and 2.30pm, on Wednesday, May 16, at 10.30am and 1.30pm, and on Thursday, May 17, at 11.30am and 2.30pm.

Performances last for approximately one hour, and the cost is included in the admission to Castle Howard.
