FIRST-time writer-director Reg Traviss's disjointed spy story about a young German boy in WW2 who is drafted into the People's Army as the Third Reich was making its last stand.
Ditching his uniform, he joins a trail of refugees before eventually being picked up by a Soviet tank commander and sent to Mother Russia as an orphan for re-education. Rising through the ranks of the KGB he is dispatched to swinging London in the early '60s to spy on the spies.
The story unfolds through flashbacks and montages, but Traviss always seems to be reaching just beyond his grasp. In places his script suggest hints of The Prisoner but a dirtect comparison would be far too kind.
