SALISBURY'S 2007 season kicks off with its popular Family Fun Day meeting tomorrow and the opening day crowd could well be in for a thrilling day's racing.

The feature race on the seven-race card, televised live on Channel 4, is the six-furlong £20,000 totesport.com Handicap, which was won in style last year by Bentong.

Royal Ascot clues were also to be found in last year's opening day fixture as Gilded, who landed the Fileys Condition Stakes and Snoqualmie Boy victorious in the Totesport Handicap went on to take the Group 11 Queen Mary Stakes and the listed Hampton Court Stakes at the royal meeting.

Gilded's handler Richard Hannan ended up as the top trainer there in 2006 with 10 wins to his name, while Ryan Moore's nine victories last year made him the leading rider at the course and helped him to become champion flat jockey for the first time.

There will be plenty of other activities to keep the whole family entertained, with a bouncy castle, face painting, a penalty shoot-out and childrens' show Ticklish Allsorts to choose from. A creche will also be in operation.

A giant screen will broadcast the racing action live to racegoers who hopefully can find winners and with the aid of a full colour racecard.

Salisbury has long been known as a breeding ground for future champions, the legendary Brigadier Gerard tasting victory at the track as a juvenile in 1970.

Since then a host of top performers have made their name at the Wiltshire course among them the 2006 Epsom Derby hero Sir Percy, triumphant at Salisbury at his second start during an unbeaten two-year-old campaign.

The meeting starts with the six furlong £7,500 Toteplacepot Maiden Stakes followed by the most valuable race of the day the £20,000 totesport.com Handicap over six furlongs.

The Richard Hannan trained Kyle would look to have a chance of getting his head in front in the maiden after being placed second on his last three runs and the Totesport Handicap could go to Oldjoesaid trained by Henry Candy.

Closing the day's action is the Bathwick Tyres Lady Riders Series Handicap run over seven furlongs, the first race of seven in the series shared by Salisbury and Newbury.
