The relocation of the main post office in Ambleside has been delayed by a fortnight.
The premises in which Ambleside Post Office is currently located, in Market Place, are being withdrawn from use as a post office, but an alternative home has been found within the Tourist Information Office, at Central Buildings, Market Cross.
The existing branch will not now close on Wednesday May 9 but on Wednesday May 23. It will reopen in its new home at 9am on Saturday May 26.
The new branch will have a purpose-built serving counter, incorporating an open-plan format. It will have two separate entrances while internally there will be a hearing loop, a low-level counter and a low-level writing desk.
It will offer the same range of products and services, including free personal banking, foreign currencies and benefit payments in cash. There is a limited number of time-restricted parking spaces immediately outside.
Field Change Adviser Ray Jefferson said: " I'm delighted that we have been able to maintain a presence in the centre of Ambleside with only a short break in service. I firmly believe that this new location will allow us to meet the needs of our customers."
