Sacked AFC Wimbledon boss Dave Anderson says his Kingsmeadow departure was inevitable after last night's agonising play-off defeat to Bromley.

The Dons board has come to the decision to show the Ulsterman the door at the end of his third season at the club after last nights heart breaking 1-0 defeat to Bromley in the Ryman Premier Division play-off semi-final.

Anderson had vowed to guide the Dons to the Conference South within three seasons of his arrival at the club - but last night's disappointment means he has failed to deliver his promise and he has paid the consequences in no uncertain terms.

And Anderson, who has lost just 18 league games as Dons boss since the start of the 2004/05 season, says his exit was always on the cards after the play-off defeat.

He said: "I think it was inevitable really - it's just one of those things. I think my record would stand up at most clubs, but AFC Wimbledon isn't most clubs.

"I had a chat with the chairman after the game last night and again today and we both agree it's the right time for me to go because if I was to stay it would put the players under so much pressure for next season."

And despite his departure Anderson insists the club is in safe hands, he said: "The chairman is a top top man and has done and is doing a great job.

"It's been a honour to be the manager of this club and it is the right decision for me to leave the club at this point - but whether it is the right decision in the future remains to be seen."

And now the former Hendon manager says he is not interested in having a break from football and is looking to get back on the proverbial football horse as soon as possible.

"I've had two or three requests throughout the season and I've spoken to a couple of people today so we will see what happens.

"I'm not one of these managers who says he wants a break from football because I enjoy it too much. And I think my time at AFC Wimbledon has made me a better manager."
