THERE were no cat fights at the check-outs as the new fashion collection to hit our shopping rails received a muted reaction from Hampshire shoppers.

More than 1,000 flustered fashion fanatics queued for hours in London's Oxford Street to get their hands on Kate Moss's new collection for Topshop.

However, the charge for her clobber failed to hit Southampton, as the early morning queue only just reached double figures, leaving our city's fashion conscious the opportunity to take their time to admire the supermodel's styles.

Kate, 33, joined forces with Topshop in a bid to design signature pieces, inspired by Kate's own wardrobe and personal style.

The supermodel was reportedly paid £3m to create the fashion range which mirrors her edgy but playful attitude.

The collection, which was launched in 225 stores nationwide, includes 50 different designs, with the cheapest item a £12 vest top and the most expensive a £150 cropped leather jacket.

To avoid the chaotic scenes at the Primark launch in London, all Topshop stores limited shoppers to five items each.

The scramble for the supermodel's range never materialised in Southampton's store, but the steady flow of fashion fans who had eagerly awaited the launch were impressed by what Kate had to offer.

Many were surprised but pleased that the range catered for all sizes, not just those few who have the Kate Moss figure.

Carlie Manley, 24, from Linden Road, Sholing, Southampton, said: "There are a few things I really like.

"There seems to be something for every size and it all looks like the type of clothes she wears. It all looks really nice and it's not too expensive either."

However, a few were left disappointed at the size of the collection, many hoping for never-ending rails of Kate's creations.

They will not have to wait too long, as this eclectic capsule collection will soon be followed by a high summer collection that arrives in stores from June.

Karyn Fenn, one of the managing directors of Topshop, said: "We are delighted to be collaborating with Kate. She knows what every girl wants to wear.

"With her innate and hugely influential style coupled with our team's drive and experience we've created a unique and wearable collection for Topshop. We know our customers will love it."
