A PROGRAMME has been launched to get people into Nordic walking so they can see the countryside and keep fit.
The Kent County Council (KCC) programme was launched by offering free taster sessions at Shorne Wood Country Park, Shorne, on April 26.
Nordic walking was developed by cross- country skiers as a form of summer training.
It involves walking with poles, similar to ones used for trekking, to improve fitness.
KCC country parks marketing and development manager Paul Lonergan said: "It works by spreading the load of your body over four limbs instead of two.
"This improves your posture and burns up to 20 per cent more calories than normal walking, while actually feeling easier."
Monthly taster sessions are being held at the country park from May 19 at 9.30am, costing £7.50 and including an hour of tuition.
Further walks are free after the taster session has been completed.
