REGARDING the letters (No Compassion Over Parking, News Shopper, April 4) and (Paperwork Is To Blame For Fines, News Shopper, April 11), I would like to tell my mother's story.

My mother is 87 and moved to Beckenham to be near my sister and I.

She has disabilities and moved so we could look after her.

We parked the car in a disabled bay in Beckenham High Street and later returned to find a ticket placed on it.

The reason for the fine was the badge had expired by two days.

I appealed against the fine on my mother's behalf, explaining her age and the fact she had recently moved to Beckenham from Norfolk.

We had applied for a new badge but had not yet received it.

I also sent proof of this application with the appeal.

The letter we received from the fines department said it was unable to make an exception.

It said we had to pay the £60 fine within seven days.

I feel very strongly, like the gentleman who is on a pension, the elderly should not be penalised due to their forgetfulness.

Some compassion should be given in these instances.

Bromley professes to be a caring borough, so please let us see the proof.
