A DELUGE of planning applications in Leigh has prompted the town council to change the way it makes recommendations.
The planning committee voted to change the system after it was swamped with development proposals, often causing meetings to run past 11pm.
There were also instances where extra meetings had to be scheduled to cope with the problem.
The change will mean the planning committee's chairman, currently Pat Holden, will make recommendations to accept certain plans without holding a full discussion.
This will not take away the right of any councillor to ask that an application be considered by the entire planning committee.
The town council only has the power to make recommendations about these proposals to Southend Council. It cannot make a final decision on them.
