A CAR was driven into the front of a corner shop in a failed ram raid.

Officers investigating the drama at The One Stop Shop, Pritchard Street, Blackburn, are appealing for anyone with information to contact them as soon as possible.

Police said the store's manageress was preparing to open the business shortly after 6.15am when a dark coloured Suzuki Vitara was driven head-on into the front of the shop.

After failing to gain access to the shop, the vehicle was driven away and was recovered in the area shortly after by police.

DC Martin Hulme said: "This was clearly a distressing ordeal for the 32-year-old shop assistant who was in the store at the time of the incident and I appeal to anyone with information to contact police.

"The shop front has been damaged significantly and it is important that we identify who was responsible as soon as possible."

Detectives in the town have only just released details of the incident which happened on March 21.

l Two 21-year-old men from Blackburn have been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

"Both men have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
