Following on from some impressive performances at the Transplus Classic, the Academy were at it again at three county competitions last week.

Arron Monk threw excellently to reach the last eight at the Lindford Open on Easter Monday and Sean White reached the final of the Invitation League Singles at the Borough Arms on the Tuesday. Last Saturday at the National Railway Club regional finals in Eastleigh there was further success as Dale Headech won the men's singles and Charlotte Burgess the Ladies'. Burgess was then victorious in the mixed pairs against Daniel Barnes and Christine Pike before coming up just short with partner Christine Pike for runners up in the Ladies Pairs.

This Sunday the Academy is out in force as they travel to Thorpe-le-Soken in search of more success and experience in the Essex Youth Open.

As the winter Invitation League draws to a close, just three honours remain undecided. The team Knock Out and Plate competitions being played this week and the pairs taking place at the Borough on Tuesday, register by 7.45pm.

As for the league, Wolversdene just hung on to take top spot from a valiant Boro Porkys' challenge and congratulations to the Unicorn Academy and Wyke Down who finished third and fourth respectively in their first season. Individually, ever present Kev Martin of Boro Porkys claimed both the tons and legs won tables with 199 and 93 from Wolves' Jeff White on 81 and 189. Top check out went to Gary Brant who for the second successive season nailed a superb 170 while the fastest leg was shared by Arron Monk and Mark Thorne with 12-darters. Finally the maximums' chart was topped by Thorne, a clear winner on 14 from Paul Reidy on 12. During the 21-week league there were more than 4,100 ton plus scores and 157 maximum 180s.

Mark Thorne was in blistering form last Friday and included a ten-darter in his 3-0 win with scores of 180, 125, 180 and double eight first dart.
