ONLY one of the three locally based runners in last Saturday's Grand National made it around the imposing Aintree course.

Clan Royal, trained by Jonjo O'Neill at Temple Guiting, finished 11th under the guidance of jockey J T McNamara. It was the third time the horse had completed at Liverpool but failed to improve on previous second and third place finishes.

Nigel Twiston-Davies's two runners both failed to finish. A winner in 2002 with Bindaree, the Naunton handler saw Knowhere unseat Tom Doyle at the eighth and Naunton Brook pulled up at fence 23 by jockey Noel Fehily.

The race was won by 33/1 shot Silver Birch.
