POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two young women bogus callers stole an elderly Stourport woman's life savings.

A woman called at the victim's home in the Mitton Street area at around 4pm yesterday, claiming to be from Age Concern, and began talking to the victim.

The victim then realised a second offender had entered through the front door, which had been left ajar. The women asked for a pen and paper but were asked to leave.

When they had gone, the victim discovered £500 - her life savings - had been stolen from the bedroom.

The women were described as white, aged 18 to 19, 5ft 1ins to 5ft 3ins tall, of slim to medium build, with short hair and wearing summery dresses. A black BMW was seen in the area.

Police are looking into whether the incident might be linked to one in Romsley, near Halesowen, at 12.40pm yesterday, in which a woman went to the home of a woman in her 70s, saying she might be able to get her more pension.

She too, asked for a pen and paper but the victim became suspicious. She then realised another woman and a man were also in the house. They left without taking anything.

The first woman was in her mid-20s, with long dark hair in a ponytail and an Eastern European accent. She was wearing a multi-coloured blouse and jeans and flat white shoes.

Police are warning residents, in particular the elderly and vulnerable, to be on their guard against bogus callers.

Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact police on 08457 444888 or ring Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
