A HEREFORD primary school has been closed following a suspected arson attack.

The fire happened at Our Lady's Roman Catholic Primary School last Saturday morning when the roof of the main hall was set alight.

School bosses informed 210 pupils that their easter holidays would be extended for at least a week because of the blaze.

"There is smoke and water damage to the main hall which will not be usable for at least six weeks," said school headteacher Vickie Walker.

"There is also smoke damage to many of the classrooms meaning pupils and staff could suffer breathing difficulties, so we have had to temporarily close.

"Myself and five colleagues spent Saturday afternoon ringing around parents telling them the news."

Providing they get the all clear, the school on Boycott Road will re-open on Monday.
