A WORCESTER after-school children's club has improved since the last time Govern-ment inspectors visited, and is now considered to be good in all areas.

Wishing Well Kids Club, based at Perdiswell Young People's Leisure Club, was praised in a report by Ofsted inspectors.

The club, which opened in 2003, provides out-of-school care from 3-6pm for children in Worcester, who are collected from local schools.

Ofsted inspectors said children at Wishing Well Kids Club had opportunities to exercise and develop their physical skills and were developing healthy lifestyles through topics and activities.

They said children were well-nourished, had access to safe, clean and age-appropriate play equipment, and were cared for in a safe, secure and welcoming environment.

The report said: "Children are kept safe during school collection times as there are rigorous procedures which are followed by all staff.

"Agreements are in place at each school which include the identified areas where children assemble when school ends and checking procedures are in place if expected children are missing."

It said children were confident and talked to staff and other children with ease, and enjoyed socialising and forming friendships with children from different schools.

The report said children were involved in making up the rules for the club and added: "Children know what is expected of them and are generally well-behaved."

It said that since the last inspection the health and hygiene policies and procedures had been reviewed and radiator valve covers had been replaced, which minimised health risks to children.

Kids club manager Helen Farrington said: "We were very pleased with the report because it came out as strong in all areas. There were a couple of pointers which were good and perfectly fair and two things which we have dealt with already."

The club's good rating echoed a similar Ofsted judgement of sister organisation Wishing Well Nursery in Bilford Road, reported in the Worcester News last month.
