Extra staff are set to be recruited to cope with bumper summer crowds as Tendring sizzles.

Record crowds headed for Tendring's sunshine coast this weekend as temperatures soared.

With weather forecasters predicting one of the hottest seasons on record, a jobs boost is being predicted to cope with the crowds.

Tendring Council's leisure portfolio holder Pierre Oxley said: "We have never seen so many people come to the sea so early in the season.

"The good thing is that our staff started early but if this is going to be the trend, whilst we don't like to talk about global warming, we will have to review the situation.

"I think it's a sign of things to come and after this summer we will look at bringing in extra beach staff."

It is the second week in a row that thousands have flocked to the coast.

Yesterday temperatures reached 26C in places.
