YOUNGSTERS are enjoying fun in the sun at a youth action extravaganza in Westbury today.

The Innov8 venture, which is taking place at the Leighton Recreation Centre from 10am to 4pm, has a host of entertainments and activities on offer, including everything from extreme sports to live music.

Targeted at people between the ages of nine and 19 from Westbury and the surrounding villages, the packed programme has proved popular.

Alex Wood, who is working at the event's information centre, said: "We've had a very good response and a lot of people have signed up.

"We are hoping for more people throughout the afternoon, but everyone seems to be having a good time and there are smiles on people's faces."

As well as a large programme of activities such as skateboarding, trampolining, music and archery, organisations are on hand to raise awareness about the facilities and support that exist for young people in the area.

Groups such as St John Ambulance, Wiltshire College, Connexions, Army Careers, and many other organisations are all there to offer information and advice.

Lana Spratt and her friend Cherie Smart, both 13, said they had been enjoying the event.

Lana said: "It has been fun so far and the archery and paintballing are good."

Cherie added: "There could be more people here at the moment, but there are a lot of different activities on."

Driven by the White Horse Area Action Group (WHAAG), Innov8 has been organised in response to the Westbury Area Community Plan (2005-2010), which identified youth involvement and social development as themes that need addressing.
